The Kresge Foundation is a $3.1 billion private, national foundation headquartered in the Detroit suburb of Troy. The goals and aspirations of seven programs guide our grantmaking and investing. Those programs are Arts & Culture, Community Development, Detroit, Education, the Environment, Health, and Human Services.
We partner with those committed to the needs of poor people and communities: small, mid-size and large nonprofit organizations; intermediaries; and the public and private sectors.
Undergirding all of our work are our values:
- We work to create opportunity, have community impact, foster institutional transformation and promote environmental conservation.
- We practice calculated risk taking, a commitment to innovation and collaboration and a belief in the intrinsic benefits of diversity.
- We are fulfilling our mission to promote human progress by helping improve the lives of poor and low-income children and adults and underserved urban and rural communities.
In 2010, the Board of Trustees approved 481 awards totaling $158 million; $134 million was paid out to grantees over the course of the year.
