Serving as Region Four of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development, the Central Six Development Council works to create a 21st-century workforce that is proactive, prepared, and results-driven. The Council supports the region’s diverse population and business by working with industry, educators, and public officials to ensure that the region is developing its workforce to meet the needs of local industry. Alabama offers a diverse industrial base with thousands of quality jobs, and the Central Six Development Council is developing programs that will accommodate current and future training needs. The Central Six Development Council serves Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, and Walker counties.

Industry Partnerships
AIDT/AWTC Construction Partnership
The AIDT/AWTC Construction Partnership works to identify current and future labor market needs, assess and improve existing construction training programs at local community colleges and career tech programs, determine the region’s skill shortages, develop short-term training curriculum, and encourage women and nontraditional candidates to pursue careers in construction. The partnership supports current and future construction workers by offering upskilling opportunities for existing employees to learn new skills and short-term training programs to create a pipeline of future employees in the construction industry.
AIDT/AWTC Manufacturing Partnership
The AIDT/AWTC Manufacturing partnership is working to prepare individuals for careers in industrial maintenance and welding. The partnership meets regularly with local manufacturers and electrician organizations to access the region’s manufacturing workforce, develop short- and long-term training programs for individuals wanting to enter the industry, and support women and other underrepresented candidates to pursue skilled trades careers.
