What We Do

To spark and support local innovation, the National Fund:

  • Brings together and coordinates funding and intellectual energy of the private, philanthropic, and public sectors;
  • Works to increase the number and effectiveness of regional collaboratives by:
    • Making grants to regional collaboratives
    • Nurturing the development of new collaboratives
    • Helping collaboratives identify and develop local funding for workforce partnerships
  • Documents what is being learned from workforce partnerships by evaluating the outcomes that help businesses, jobseekers, employees, and local and regional economies.
  • Develops standards for workforce partnerships that are effective at helping people looking for work and entry-level employees move into sustainable career paths, and employers to build a skilled workforce;
  • Provides technical assistance to regional collaboratives and workforce partnerships;
  • Supports a dynamic learning community of regional collaboratives and workforce partnerships that develops and shares “best in class” practices;
  • Disseminates results and lessons that are useful for people and organizations working to prepare jobseekers and entry-level employees, especially low-income Americans, to succeed;
  • Communicates with a broad range of organizations playing a leadership role in preparing people for jobs, including nonprofit organizations, government agencies and political leaders, businesses, labor unions, Workforce Investment Boards, and foundations and other philanthropic organizations;
  • Helps workforce partnerships develop strategies for building ongoing funding support.
